Samoa Joe Reportedly Injured, Relinquishes NXT Championship

Samoa Joe announced today that he is relinquishing the NXT Championship due to injury. The nature of the injury is still unclear, but Joe stated on Twitter that after speaking with doctors, he ultimately had to drop the title and step away from in-ring action for the time being.

Joe is a record-breaking three-time NXT Champion, so it’s a damn shame he had to give up the title this way. WWE has not announced plans to crown a new champ just yet, but with NXT 2.0 debuting this Tuesday, we’ll likely get an update then.

It was just three weeks ago that Samoa Joa won the NXT Championship. It was in a grueling main event bout against Karrion Kross, with Kross being permanently called up to Raw the next night. Due to NXT’s impending revamp, it’s hard to say if Joe will get a chance to win back the NXT Title at some point.
