Five Not-So-Obvious Opponents for Adam Cole in AEW

Adam Cole has been absolutely killing it in his short time with AEW. The former NXT Champion shocked wrestling fans when he debuted for AEW at All Out in Chicago this year, and since then, he’s been a part of a few awesome matches. He’s already had great bouts against Jungle Boy and Frankie Kazarian, but if his time in NXT and Ring of Honor before that were any indication, Adam Cole is destined for greatness.
Obviously, we’re looking forward to seeing Cole do battle with the likes of CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, and Darby Allin, among others. But what about some not-so-obvious opponents? If his match against Kazarian was anything to go by, Adam Cole will likely be a part of many instant classics we never saw coming. Here are five opponents we’d like to see this particular member of the Super Kliq take on.
Christian Cage

After returning at the Royal Rumble following years away from the ring due to injury, Christian Cage opted not to re-sign with WWE and instead made the jump to AEW. Since then he’s had some awesome matches with Kenny Omega, going so far as to defeat him for the Impact Wrestling World Championship. Christian is one of those talents who can have a good match with anyone, which is something you can also say about Adam Cole.
Though Christian Cage and Adam Cole have crossed paths in AEW as part of the rivalry between Jurassic Express and the Super Kliq, the two have yet to go one-on-one. Christian is a true workhorse, and he’s the kind of wrestler who’s great at putting over younger talent as well as playing the role of the wily veteran who gets a win over a newer star. As such, if Cole gets a match with Christian, we’re likely to get an exciting back-and-forth match-up between two awesome competitors.
Dante Martin

Dante Martin is one of the most exciting talents in All Elite Wrestling due to his athleticism and high-flying prowess. Adam Cole vs. Jungle Boy was a blast because we got to see the latter deliver a mix of hard-hitting strikes, submissions, and flying maneuvers. Every time Jungle Boy took to the skies against Cole, it made for some high intensity and excitement. Now imagine Dante Martin, who prides himself on defying gravity every time he steps in the ring, dishing out his signature offense in a match with Adam Cole.
Yeah, we can’t wait for this match-up to happen!
Sammy Guevara

Sammy Guevara has already bested one former member of Undisputed Era in Bobby Fish. Is Adam Cole next? The current AEW TNT Champion is enjoying a run as a face, so if he does cross paths with Cole, now would be the time to do so.
This could be a faction war between The Inner Circle and The Elite, or it could be a one-off open challenge for the TNT Title that sees Cole chasing the belt. Whatever the case may be, these two stars are constantly having great matches against other opponents, so when they do meet up, it’ll very likely be a battle to remember.
Chris Jericho

Speaking of The Inner Circle, another member of that group who would in all likelihood have an excellent match with Adam Cole is Chris Jericho. Over the years, Jericho has been able to reinvent himself, evolve his character, and adapt to the ever-changing landscape of pro wrestling. He’s the type of seasoned veteran who can work with everyone from newcomers to legends to deliver a great match and a great story in the ring.
There are a lot of people Adam Cole can work with in AEW, but there are some that he absolutely should work with sooner rather than later. The first ever AEW World Champion Chris Jericho is the latter.
Jon Moxley

While Adam Cole would have his work cut out for him facing any of the other names on this list, there’s an argument to be made that Jon Moxley would be his biggest challenge to date. The violent, unrestricted, and unhinged Moxley is a master in the ring, possessing myriad wrestling maneuvers — from strong style strikes and classic moves to traditional submissions and street fighting offense. Moxley is as varied as they come, and there’s a reason he’s held gold everywhere he’s wrestled.
If and when Adam Cole and Jon Moxley stare each other down from across the AEW ring, Cole is going to be put through hell. Mox will punish and brutalize Cole, and we don’t think Cole will ever be the same — regardless of whether he wins or loses. That’s just how dangerous Jon Moxley is.
