Peyton Royce Asked to Return to NXT Before Release

A lot of wrestlers were released from their WWE contracts this year. Some were more shocking than others, but for the most part, these releases felt sudden, out of nowhere, or just bizarre as stars of all levels were let go from the company. Two such stars were Cassie Lee and Jessica McKay (Peyton Royce and Billie Kay of The IIconics), who were really popular before being split up and, ultimately, released.

Speaking to SHAK Wrestling, the two women talked about their current schedules, their time in WWE, and their releases. Cassie Lee also explained how she had originally requested to go back to NXT. She was apparently told that “it was being looked into,” but as fate would have it, she was released shortly after.

While Lee looked back at this moment and had a laugh about it during the interview with SHAK Wrestling, it’s certainly a bummer for fans that she was let go from WWE. The IIconics had crafted a nice following, and though they were strong together, it definitely looked like they were working hard during their singles runs.

Other wrestlers have been sent back to NXT, Finn Balor and Ember Moon chief among them. It’s a shame Cassie Lee was unable to return to the brand, but for what it’s worth, it looks like she and McKay, who now call themselves The IInspiration, are looking forward to their current tour and future projects.
