Fight Forever Match of the Week: Ace Austin vs. Chris Sabin (10/28/2021)
Welcome to Wrestlevolve’s Fight Forever Match of the Week. Here we’ll highlight one match from the week in professional wrestling and talk about why it was one of our favorites. It could be a 30-minute epic or the exciting culmination of an entertaining feud. It might be a pay-per-view bout or a really solid TV match. This past Thursday, Impact Wrestling went big with its first post-Bound for Glory TV taping. From top to bottom, the card featured a combination of solid matches, promos, and backstage segments. The show kicked off with an impressive promo by the new Impact Wrestling World Champion Moose, and that was followed up by Trey Miguel’s first X Division Title defense against Rocky Romero.
As great as that match was, though, it was the main event of the evening that stole the show — and the week. Yes, in a week that featured all-star instant classics like Bryan Danielson vs. Eddie Kingston, Matt Sydal vs. Dante Martin, and CM Punk vs. Bobby Fish, we’re going with Ace Austin vs. Chris Sabin in the main event of Impact Wrestling as our match of the week.
Austin and Sabin didn’t just put on an entertaining show during their match-up — they were also able to tell a story in the ring. The two competitors dished out hard-hitting and high-flying offense, with Ace Austin getting his hands dirty from time to time — seriously, that playing card paper cut spot will never not look painful!
Austin’s buddy Madman Fulton also involved himself in the match a couple times, distracting Chris Sabin and ultimately costing him the match. But even though the numbers were too much for Sabin in the end, he was still able to fight off Fulton for a little bit and even bring the hurt to Ace Austin. Sabin slowed things down at one point, focusing on Austin’s legs. This caused Austin to rethink his offense, which typically consists of multiple springboard moves. It was pretty interesting seeing the heel in a vulnerable position.
Madman Fulton’s involvement in the match means that we’ll now be seeing him take on an irate Chris Sabin on this week’s episode of Impact Wrestling. This is one of those mid-card side stories that’s simple and to the point, but above all else, it’s fun seeing different wrestlers interact with each other in entertaining angles like this one.
We’ll have to see what the payoff is, but whatever the case ends up being, everyone who gets in the ring with a veteran like Chris Sabin comes out of it an elevated wrestler. As for Sabin, he’s the kind of worker who can fit into any plans, from enjoyable angles against younger talent like Ace Austin to title matches such as his most recent effort against former X Division Champ Josh Alexander.
