Welcome to Wrestlevolve’s Fight Forever Match of the Week. Here we’ll highlight one match from the week in professional wrestling and talk about why it was one of our favorites. It could be a 30-minute epic or the exciting culmination of an entertaining feud. It might be a pay-per-view bout or a really solid TV match. Wrestling resonates with everyone differently, so feel free to let us know what your match of the week was in the comments!

As if there was ever any question about it! The last week in wrestling saw an incredible match-up between AEW World Champion Kenny Omega and Bryan Danielson, who arrived to AEW at All Out. Though the title wasn’t on the line in this match, the two competitors battled as if it was in what can easily be considered one of the greatest TV matches ever.

Omega vs. Danielson was part of AEW’s two-night Grand Slam event, the first night taking place on the September 22, 2021 edition of Dynamite and the second on the September 24, 2021 edition of Rampage. Though there were a bunch of solid matches on both shows — honorable mentions go to CM Punk vs. Powerhouse Hobbs and AEW Women’s World Champion Britt Baker vs. Ruby Soho — there’s just no denying that Kenny Omega and Bryan Danielson rose to the occasion to put on the best fight of the week.

The match featured a lot of back-and-forth action between Omega and Danielson, with both opponents hitting their best moves on one another. There were V-Triggers, top rope dragon suplexes, running knees, and crazy head kicks. At one point, Danielson even put Omega in the Cattle Mutilation submission hold, which was met by a huge pop from the crowd. Fittingly so, too, as you could count the number of times Danielson applied Cattle Mutilation to an opponent in WWE on one hand.

Oh, and the chops. Damn, those chops! Danielson’s chest was bruised and deep red by the end of the match. Hell, it was bruised and red halfway through the match! Omega’s repeated chops were brutal and seemingly never-ending, as were Danielson’s kicks to Omega. It was a hard-hitting and violent affair with a gloriously devilish mix of powerful grappling and striking offense.

As most folks expected, the match ended in a 20-minute time limit draw, with no winner — well, except for the fans, that is. That’s right — this is one of those matches where everyone won.

It’s very obvious that Kenny Omega vs. Bryan Danielson will happen again in AEW. And when it does, it’s going to be a highly anticipated match. It might even be the first rematch we feature here on Wrestlevolve’s Fight Forever Match of the Week column. We won’t jump the gun just yet, but we certainly think there’s a possibility of that being the case.
