Fight Forever Match of the Week: Lio Rush, Dante Martin vs. Matt Sydal, Lee Moriarty (11/10/2021)

Lio Rush Lee Moriarty

Welcome to Wrestlevolve’s Fight Forever Match of the Week. Here we’ll highlight one match from the week in professional wrestling and talk about why it was one of our favorites. It could be a 30-minute epic or the exciting culmination of an entertaining feud. It might be a pay-per-view bout or a really solid TV match. Wrestling resonates with everyone differently, so feel free to let us know what your match of the week was in the comments!

This is how you make a debut. In his first match on AEW television, Lio Rush was able to deliver an incredible performance alongside his tag team partner, Dante Martin. Rush and Martin took on Matt Sydal and Lee Moriarty and came out on top, but it’s the story that happened in between the ropes that really stood out even more so than the actual results of the match.

With the names involved, you can rest assured that we were treated to an athletic, acrobatic instant classic. All four men put in a lot of work to make themselves and each other look like a million bucks. Dante Martin’s star continues to shine brighter every time he steps in the ring. Matt Sydal is a veteran and a great high flyer. Lee Moriarty is good and will only get better.

All that said, there’s just no denying that Lio Rush was the star of this match on AEW Dynamite. He delivered a flurry of the dizzying, fast-paced offense he’s known for. He was slippery, getting away from his opponents’ attacks, while also being aggressive with some hard-hitting moves of his own.

Let’s talk about the moment, though — the exact moment the crowd went absolutely bonkers for Lio Rush. After weeks of heel-like promos and coming off as a manipulative, greed-driven character, Rush debuted to an arena full of boos. But then… it happened.

Rush was able to dish out a string of offense against both Sydal and Moriarty, avoiding his opponents while wrestling circles around them and looking like a damn superhero. It was at this time when the audience’s boos turned to cheers. And just like that, Lio Rush essentially became a face.

Rush’s offense was so impressive that it instantly won the crowd over. It was awesome to see, especially because Lio Rush deserves all the praise in the world for his in-ring work. He proved himself on the independent circuit, he put on great matches in NXT, and now he’s on a major platform to showcase his talents to the world.

In a bit of sad news, Lio Rush dedicated this match on the November 10, 2021 edition of AEW Dynamite to his grandmother, who had just passed away the day before his debut. Well, if that match was his way of honoring his grandmother’s memory, I think it’s safe to say she would be proud of him.
