Fight Forever Match of the Week: Thunder Rosa vs. Jamie Hayter (11/24/2021)

Thunder Rosa vs. Jamie Hayter AEW Dynamite

Welcome to Wrestlevolve’s Fight Forever Match of the Week. Here we’ll highlight one match from the week in professional wrestling and talk about why it was one of our favorites. It could be a 30-minute epic or the exciting culmination of an entertaining feud. It might be a pay-per-view bout or a really solid TV match. Wrestling resonates with everyone differently, so feel free to let us know what your match of the week was in the comments!

It’s very possible that Jamie Hayter had her best match in AEW on the November 24, 2021 episode of Dynamite. Yes, there’s an argument to be made that Thunder Rosa is the type of athlete who elevates everyone who steps in the ring with her. That argument aside, though, this was the type of match that very well could’ve put a lot of pressure on Hayter.

Well, if Jamie Hayter was feeling any sort of pressure, you wouldn’t have been able to tell based on her performance here.

The two women wasted no time getting into it. Thunder Rosa’s entrance theme hit and she rushed the ring, immediately battling it out with Jamie Hayter.

A good chunk of the early parts of the match featured a dominant Thunder Rosa, who appeared to outclass Hayter with her quick, aggressive, and smart offense. Then there was a moment when Thunder Rosa took her eye off the prize momentarily. While brawling outside the ring, Thunder Rosa stepped back into the ring to break the referee’s 10-count. When she went for a dive onto Jamie Hayter, she was caught in mid-air by her more powerful opponent.

Hayter slammed Thunder Rosa into the ring post and then onto the lightly padded concrete floor. This led to Hayter taking control of the match. Thunder Rosa sold her back injuries beautifully, as she was struggling to get in consistent offense and was overpowered by Hayter on a few occasions.

The All Elite Wrestling crowd was into the match from the get-go, but there were moments when the audience would absolutely go bonkers for the in-ring action. At one point, there were dueling “Thunder Rosa! Jamie Hayter!” chants going on, which was a testament to both ladies’ performances.

The final moments of the match saw Rebel and Britt Baker interfere in an attempt to assist Jamie Hayter. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned when Rebel distracted the referee only for Britt Baker to deliver an accidental superkick to Hayter instead of Thunder Rosa.

After Thunder Rosa sent Baker crashing into Rebel, which effectively eliminated the threat, she was able to roll up Jamie Hayter for the one-two-three.

Shenanigans aside, this was a very solid match between two very clear future AEW champions. It definitely seems like AEW’s women’s division is continuing to grow and moving in the right direction.

Following the match, we saw a bit of dissension as Jamie Hayter pushed both Rebel and Britt Baker away before storming out of the ring.

This is how you tell a branching storyline. Thunder Rosa and Jamie Hayter told their story during the match, and then the trio of Hayter, Baker, and Rebel told a new story afterward. What’s next for these three? We’ll have to wait and see, but given Jamie Hayter’s performance against Thunder Rosa, and how well she was able to get the crowd behind her, we could be looking at a face turn and eventual title chase.
