The Next Five Opponents for Bobby Fish in AEW Should Be…

Bobby Fish - NXT

Bobby Fish has officially signed with AEW. His first outing with the company was a fun TNT Title match against champion Sammy Guevara, but what’s next for Fish? While he’s certain to cross paths with former Undisputed Era teammate Adam Cole at some point, there are plenty of other feuds for the “owner of the most educated feet in professional wrestling” to be a part of. Here are five opponents we think Bobby Fish should take on next in AEW.

Matt Sydal

Matt Sydal

While in Ring of Honor, Bobby Fish and Matt Sydal crossed paths in tag team action back in 2014. It’s cool seeing how wrestlers have progressed and grown over the years, so it would be a lot of fun to see these two face off again in 2021 inside an AEW ring.

Aside from the fact that both Bobby Fish and Matt Sydal are accomplished in-ring workers, they also both possess a strong arsenal of kicks, which could make for some painful back-and-forth kick-based offense. And while Fish may not be the high-flyer that Sydal is, he still has some powerful top-rope attacks as we saw when he delivered an avalanche Falcon Arrow to Sammy Guevara in his debut.

Ricky Starks

FTW Champion Ricky Starks with Team Taz

It may not be an official championship, but it would be cool if someone other than a member of Team Taz won the FTW Championship. Perhaps Bobby Fish could chase that title and its current champion, Ricky Starks.

At 44 years old, Fish has a wealth of knowledge he can pass on to the younger talent of AEW. A program between Starks and Fish could benefit both men. Whether or not Starks wins the feud, he would very likely come out of it looking like a million bucks. Plus, it would give Fish something fun to do in AEW’s mid-card.

Minoru Suzuki

Minoru Suzuki

The beauty of the “Forbidden Door” is that it allows for cross-promotional dream matches as well as unexpected surprises. Minoru Suzuki vs. Bobby Fish might not be on anyone’s wrestling bingo card, but that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be an entertaining bout.

Both Fish and Suzuki are veterans of the squared circle, having wrestled all over the world and delivering truly devastating offense in each of their matches. As such, this could be one of those feuds you don’t see coming but that ends up being a banger on any card, whether on a weekly taping of Dynamite or Rampage, or even at a pay-per-view event.

The Butcher and the Blade

The Butcher, the Blade, and the Bunny

Bobby Fish may be a solid singles competitor, but he’s also achieved a lot of success as a part of reDRagon with Kyle O’Reilly. We may or may not get that specific tag team duo someday in AEW, but we can certainly dream. As reDRagon (and as part of Undisputed Era in NXT), Fish and O’Reilly were violent, aggressive, and highly skilled. They possessed some truly painful tag team offense and were awesome whether they were battling other teams in ROH, NJPW, or NXT.

It might be a while before we see this pairing again (if it does indeed happen), but Bobby Fish is the type of well-rounded wrestler who could work with anyone by his side. As such, if he were to find himself a good partner, it would be rad to see them take on the intense duo of the Butcher and the Blade. Not every meaningful feud needs to be for a championship — so it could be great seeing Fish and a partner have some grueling battles against the Butcher and the Blade.

Jon Moxley

Jon Moxley

Seeing two combatants with vastly different styles usually leads to really interesting matches. Bobby Fish’s mix of kicks and grappling would greatly contrast Jon Moxley’s brawling style and could make for some truly entertaining bouts.

Mox is an exciting talent and can work incredible matches with anyone. In addition, he’s not afraid to take some stiff shots, as well as deliver some of his own. A program between Moxley and Fish where the two trade victories could help solidify the latter as a staple of AEW, as well as give Mox something fun to do until he decides to wrestle a few matches in Japan or on the deathmatch circuit again.
