Fox Tried Helping WWE Sign CM Punk but WWE Reportedly Wasn’t Interested

It’s being reported that the Fox network was trying to get CM Punk to re-sign with WWE prior to him signing with AEW, so much so that the network was willing to assist WWE. Unfortunately, WWE seems to have not been interested.

The news comes from Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline, who reported that WWE officials cited “attitude issues” as one of the reasons the company wasn’t looking to sign Punk. In addition, some within WWE reportedly said that Punk was asking for too high of a sum.

While CM Punk hadn’t re-signed with WWE, he did work with Fox as a host of the ill-fated WWE Backstage, which began airing in 2019. For that show, however, Punk had business dealings with Fox, not WWE.

It’s interesting that WWE was supposedly uninterested in signing Punk, even at the behest of Fox. Ultimately, CM Punk would go on to sign with and debut in AEW. He seems happier than he’s ever been, too, so it’s hard to say if he would’ve signed with WWE either way.
